After a year of study in philosophy and literature at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, he switched to the Conservatorio Nacional de Música where he finished his undergraduate study. Guerra was a great admirer at this time of the nueva canción, embodied by Pablo Milanés, Silvio Rodríguez and Facundo Cabral.
After finishing his study at the Santo Domingo conservatory, Guerra went to the Berklee College of Music in Boston to study composition and arranging.
After his return to the Dominican Republic, he released his first album, Soplando (1984) with a group of local musicians which subsequently became known as Juan Luis Guerra y 440. The 440 part of the band's name refers to the standard tuning "A=440."
Two albums followed, Mudanza y Acarreo and Mientras más lo pienso ... tú. Although they saw little acclaim internationally, the band garnered some fame in their country, resulting in them being nominated to represent the Dominican Republic at the prestigious Festival OTI.
Their next album, in 1989, brought them international fame. Ojalá que Llueva Cafe became a number one hit in many Latin American countries, with the hit song of the same name. Subsequently, a video of the hit song was filmed and Juan Luis Guerra and his 4-40 band began touring. (The song's fame was revived in 1996 with a cover by Café Tacuba). In 1990, they released their next album, Bachata Rosa, which also became a major hit, selling more than 5 million copies at that time, and allowing Guerra to keep touring Latin America, USA and Europe. This album contains memorable love songs such as "Burbujas de amor" and "Estrellitas y Duendes".
Guerra became a controversial figure in the Dominican Republic after he released his next album, Areito. "Areito" (1992), featured the hit single "El costo de la vida," ("The Cost of Living") but the video version was banned in several countries.
He protested against the poor conditions in many Latin American countries, the celebration of the "Americas' Discovery, (1492)" and the double standard policies of first world nations. ('Areito' is a Taino word for song and dance).
That situation might have had something to do with his next album, Fogaraté (1995), where he stayed away from recording any protest songs.
One of his most recent albums, Ni es lo Mismo ni es Igual (1998), garnered much critical acclaim. It won three Latin Grammys in 2000.
In 2004, Guerra released his first new album in six years. Entitled "Para Ti", the album's songs are mostly religious in nature, reflecting Guerra's conversion to evangelical Christianity. With this album the singer won two awards at the 2005 Billboards in the categories of Gospel-Pop and Tropical-Merengue. In the same time, Guerra was honored with the Latino Special Award for the Music Academy of Spain for his contributions to the music of his country and the Caribbean in the last 20 years.- Actress

Alfonso DiLuca is a Dominican-American actor, writer and entrepreneur. He was born in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. His twenty-five year acting career spans stage and screen in Miami, New York and Los Angeles.
Alfonso is best known most recently for his role as "Jorge", in the beloved and popular TV series "Jane the Virgin". He is also known for memorable roles in hit Hispanic soap-operas like "Prisionera" (as Tito Cabello) and "La Viuda de Blanco" with NBC/Telemundo, which have been translated into numerous languages and distributed in worldwide syndication. Other works include the role of "Cristo" in "Burn Notice", as well as participations in multiple American TV series as "NCIS: New Orleans" and "Days of Our Lives" among others.
Alfonso got his first taste of acting about the age of ten. Through a connection from his businessman father, Alfonso appeared on Dominican television commercials promoting American products. In those school days, Alfonso also loved writing and drawing, and he made fun and profit by producing comic books that he wrote and sold to students at school. DiLuca is fully bilingual and university-educated in both English and Spanish, allowing him to speak English with a slight, flexible Hispanic accent, and to deliver a dynamic cross-cultural charm to all his roles. The much-younger brother of three children, Alfonso's childhood home was a social and artistic milieu frequented by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends, high-ranking politicians, painters, sculptors and musicians. The family prospered in the 1960's and 70's in business and politics, and encouraged artistic endeavors. Alfonso's mother Nidia Cuervo became a recognized painter in the Dominican Republic who participated in exhibitions and received awards for her work. His abuela on his mother's side was a composer of music and the first female radio newscaster in the Dominican Republic.
DiLuca came of age zooming on his motorbike through the steamy streets of Santo Domingo as his attention turned to poetry and romance. He was drawn to studying, memorizing, and performing the classic Spanish poets, from Cervantes to Lope de Vega, as well as his own works within close circles. The family had political aspirations for the promising teenager, and Alfonso began to travel along the campaign trail with candidates who were often family members or friends. Winding through the rugged mountainous interior in long truck caravans, the political campaigners snaked across the island from town-to-town conducting rallies, delivering inspirational speeches, and distributing trinkets to humble locals. DiLuca absorbed the realities of island life, both inside and outside of the city. He gained a deep knowledge of the hardships, enthusiasm, and warm affection of the Dominican people. These early experiences continue to inform the authentic characters that DiLuca brings forth in his acting and writing.
In 1987, during his last year at the prestigious university, Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Alfonso received the award Primera Mención Honorífica for Poetry Writing. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics the following spring. By then, Alfonso had made the decision to leave the island and follow his passion for artistic and entrepreneurial endeavors in the United States. Accompanied by three boxes of his beloved books and a suitcase, Alfonso grabbed a bunk on a cargo ship crossing the 826 miles northwest to Miami, Florida. He enrolled in the International English Program at Florida State University in Tallahassee where he quickly completed the program and obtained the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) certification demonstrating English proficiency. To further improve his skills, Alfonso studied photography, and in 1994 received the certification Applied Professional Photography, from the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. He became a United States citizen while living in Miami.
DiLuca enrolled in the studio of renowned south-Florida acting coach Stewart Solomon and promptly became one of its most respected members by fellow students and Solomon himself. He was sought-after for his comedic timing and confident presence, and soon began to receive offers of representation. A Miami talent agent offered commercial representation after seeing Alfonso in one of Solomon's exhibitions of scenes and monologues. DiLuca's work attracted the attention of acclaimed Cuban-American acting coach and theater director, Teresa Maria Rojas and her colleagues. The mercurial Teresa Maria Rojas had founded Prometeo Theater Group, a principal bilingual theater in Miami. With Prometeo, Alfonso starred in several successful plays produced by this innovative theater company. After Prometeo, Alfonso was immersed in the Theater scene in Miami, where he co-starred in many plays by Hispanic and American playwrights. He made a name for himself in popular Latino Theater productions among the luminaries of Hispanic theater such as Zully Montero and Marta Picanes. A producer from the Hispanic television channel Telemundo contacted DiLuca's agent, opening the doors for Alfonso to enter the Telenovela (Spanish Soap Opera) world. He began to land supporting roles in Telenovelas, then co-starring in the popular "Ladrón de Corazónes" (Thief of Hearts), "Los Teens" (The Teens), "Prisionera" (Woman Prisoner) and "La Viuda de Blanco" (The Widow in White), among others. In 2001 Alfonso spent a year in New York City studying acting at Manhattan workshops, while appearing in industrials and commercials. After returning to his lucrative career in Miami, Alfonso even influenced Telemundo producers to cast his real-life mother, Nidia Cuervo, to play his "on-screen" mother in the popular Prisionera.
Alfonso has been based in the Los Angeles area since 2008. The veteran actor appears regularly in commercials, industrials, print ads, films, and television shows. Keila Lorena is a Dominican-American multidisciplinary artist: actress, model, visual artist and architect; in other words, a modern day renaissance woman.
Keila Lorena Pérez Gutiérrez was born on November 10, 1990, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. From an early age she demonstrated her artistically inclined and creative soul, while expressing herself through mediums like drawing & painting. During her childhood, she moved back and forth (along with her family) between Santo Domingo, Miami, FL and Houston, TX, until Keila's parents decided that their family should settle in South Florida. Moving to this perpetually vibrant and incomparable city at the age of 13, broadened Keila's horizons while allowing her to embrace even more her Latino heritage, as she became part of the rich, diverse cultural melting pot that is "The Magic City".
After graduating from Miami Sunset Senior High School in 2008, she enrolled in Miami Dade College's Architecture program and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree, in 2011. However, when transferring to Florida International University, Keila felt the need to switch to a career that could give her more freedom to explore her interests, and eventually find her true passion in life. Therefore, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts in 2013, which allowed her to work in a variety of industries, most notably, broadcast media (during that time she also worked locally as a fashion model and as a personal style blogger). Having the opportunity to intern for companies like Univision and CNN En Español, was the first step to realizing her purpose and opened her eyes to the endlessly fascinating entertainment media industry, but she didn't really know this back then.
A couple of years (and a few odd jobs) later, while trying to survive back in Houston (this time, on her own), Keila found herself going through a "blue period". Having no inspiration or creative outlet at the time, Keila decided to go see an advance screening of La La Land (2016), as a birthday gift to herself. Surprisingly enough, right then she felt that this beautiful and timeless cinematic masterpiece inspired her to keep going, and to believe in all her dreams all over again. From that moment on, Keila started watching more films than ever before, and began immersing herself in the wonderful world of cinema. She finally realized that, although she didn't see it as clearly before, it has always been there... her mission was to create, to entertain, to inspire & to be part of this magical universe of storytellers and dreamers.
As soon as she moved back to Miami, Keila started contributing to the art department for a few local Film, TV & Web productions, having the opportunity to work as the Production Designer, Art Director, Set Dresser & Propmaster, respectively. However, in 2018 was when Keila realized that she has always belonged in front of the camera, that her mission of telling stories and bringing characters to life would not be complete if she doesn't learn the craft of acting, herself. Therefore, she started attending acting workshops and finding ways to begin acquiring as much knowledge and experience as possible. During this time she had the opportunity to participate on TV series "Paper Empire" & Telemundo's telenovela "Betty en NY". In addition, she was able to be part of commercials for brands like: Fleming's Prime Steakhouse, Brightline, Yellow Tail Wine, Miami Film Festival, among others. Keila was also cast for music videos during this period, most notably for "Per le Strade una Canzone" by Eros Ramazzotti feat. Luis Fonsi.
Summer of 2019 brought Keila back to her hometown, Dominican Republic, for family reasons. This allowed her to explore the rapidly emerging Dominican film industry, and although she got to spend a relatively short time over there, she used it wisely. While in Santo Domingo, Keila was requested to audition for a major Netflix series lead role, was cast for a commercial and became a certified actress by DGCINE (Dirección General De Cine), the national film division of the Dominican government's ministry of culture. During this period, Keila completed an online MasterClass taught by Natalie Portman, continuing her mission of taking a step each day to keep learning and growing as an actor. During fall of the above mentioned year and already back in Miami, Keila had the opportunity to see herself on the big screen for the first time ever. This was thanks to her role on the short film The Re-Education of the Male Auteur: 8 1/2 (2019), which premiered during Borscht Film Festival. In 2021, post-covid, she started studying acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute.
In 2022, Keila debuted as a stage actor as she was the female protagonist of a Microtheater Miami play titled "La Revancha". During the same year, she also became a reality TV star thanks to her participation in two seasons of "Enamorándonos USA" on UniMás / Univision.
In 2023, Keila decided not to only pursue acting, as she has been doing for five years, up until now; but to dedicate herself to appreciating and making art in multiple disciplines, working again on projects that she had been leaving behind. Not only did she start modeling and painting again, but also, she completed a certificate in Architectural Imagination from Harvard University. Summer of the same year brought Keila the opportunity to join the cast of feature film "A Veces Grito", filmed in her home country, Dominican Republic.
